Potsdam theater ship "Sturmvogel" visits SET in Genthin
The barge "Sturmvogel", built in 1924, is 50 meters long, six meters wide, four meters high and is currently moored at the shipyard in Genthin.
The association "Theaterschiff" has been operating the barge as a theater stage featuring gastronomy since 2015. "Every five years, we have to take the ship to the shipyard so that its navigability can be reconfirmed by the Waterways and Shipping Authority," says Timo Schöps from the board of the operating association.
Currently, the underbody is being cleaned up and shells and algae are being removed so that the bottom of the ship can also be tested. For this purpose, the material thickness of the ship's side is measured at a total of 50 measuring points. Furthermore, the colored coating of the ship above the waterline as well as the wheelhouse will be renewed.
The "Sturmvogel" is expected to return to Potsdam in August – just in time to start the new season.
