Rupertus-Strako refurbishes museum ship ELBE 3 at BREDO DRY DOCKS
Since the end of May this year, the 44-meter ELBE 3 has been refurbished and renovated in a dock of BREDO DRY DOCKS in Bremerhaven by the main contractor Rupertus-Strako.
The paint of the lightship, which is over 100 years old, will be completely renewed. In addition, BREDO DRY DOCKS will renew steel on the outer skin and inside the ship. The work is scheduled to be completed within three months.
The ELBE 3 has now been a museum ship for over half a century. It is the ship with the longest laytime in the harbor of the German Maritime Museum in Bremerhaven – owning its place there since 1967.
"As one of the floating lighthouses of historic shipping, the lightship ELBE 3 is an important testimony to our maritime heritage. Having the ELBE 3 fundamentally refurbished is a further milestone in its more than one hundred-year history. This means that the German Maritime Museum once again has an important exhibit of cultural mediation at its disposal, which will also be able to tell future generations its eventful history of safeguarding maritime shipping," said Claudia Roth, Minister of State for Culture and Media.
The ELBE 3 is another project that shows the good cooperation within our group. In line with our motto "With joined forces".
