SET starts construction of the new HADAG ferries for Hamburg's shuttle fleet
At SET in Tangermünde, the green light was given for the construction of the first of three new ferries for the HADAG company in Hamburg.
According to HADAG CEO Tobias Haack, innovative design, a plug-in hybrid drive and a redesigned capacity are intended to bring the company a step closer to zero-emission operation on the Elbe.
To be electrically powered, the ferries are equipped with batteries that are recharged by a diesel generator (range extender). The ships are also technically prepared for the use of hydrogen technology. This opens up all possibilities for completely emission-free operation. Development of the propulsion concept was carried out together with the ship designers Navalue from Flensburg.
The approx. 33 m long newbuildings are longer than the previous ferries and each offers space for up to 250 passengers. The current HADAG fleet consists of 26 vessels, each with space for 114 to 250 passengers in single-man operation.
The new vessels will enable the busy Line 62 service to start every 10 minutes instead of 15.
Construction of the first vessel is expected to be completed within a year.
